TAHC&H Goes to Washington!

By Avery Thomas posted Apr 05,2018 11:59 AM

March on Washington is an annual TAHC&H event and serves as an opportunity to advocate for home care & hospice policy priorities at the federal level in Washington, D.C. Our members, from across Texas, met face to face with federal Representatives about home care & hospice issues. This year the event took place March 19-21st, 2018.

Additionally, a virtual lobby day was organized for those who could not attend in person. See how TAHC&H works for our industry with this MOW recap!

March on Washington 2018

IMG-5778.jpgA snow covered Washington D.C. Even in the middle of the 4th Nor’easter to hit the East coast, 22 fellow home care and hospice agency members accomplished over 30 legislative visits in Washington DC advocating for issues important to home health and hospice. Key meetings were held with Chairman Brady’s office (Chair House Ways and Means Committee), Sen. Cornyn’s office (Senate Majority Whip, Senate Finance Committee), Representative Burgess (Chair House Energy and Commerce Committee), Chair Pete Sessions (Chair House Rules Committee), Representative Henry Cuellar (Senate Finance), the Health Policy Team with the Health and Human Services, and over 25 other offices.  Home health and hospice agency advocates discussed the importance of fixing the rural add on phase out, hospice issues such as payment reform and opioid disposal legislation and other items such as home health payment reform that recently passed in the Bipartisan Budget Act (2018).

We have some great follow up opportunities with Congress as well as HHS to address the aforementioned issues along with items related to the ongoing F2F (Face to Face) denials suffered by agencies through the audit process.  As we move through the 115th congress, your colleagues have paved the way for future legislation and policy changes aimed at ensuring home health and hospice agencies remain viable and can deliver quality services to patients.  Thank you to everyone who attended and advocated for our industry!

Virtual Lobby Day

During March on Washington, TAHC&H also hosted a Virtual Lobby day for our members here in Texas. An action alert was emailed to members to participate in the federal issues below.

We had over 140 individuals participate in this event. If you participated, thank you for your support!

We asked our members to contact their representatives on the following issues:
  • Support for Home Health Care Services and the patients choice to be in the lowest health care cost setting where they feel most comfortable; their home.
  • Support Needed Corrections and Clarifications to the Medicare Home Health Payment Reform Act of 2018 Sec. 51001 & 51002 of the Bipartisan Budget Act
  • Support Appropriate rural home health access and funding to reach those patients
  • Support appropriate reimbursement for Hospice providers

March on Washington is an opportunity to advocate together, as one voice, for our industry. We look forward to your participation for MOW 2019!
