Webinar: Discontinuing Medication Appropriately

When:  Jul 18, 2017 from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM (CT)

When is it appropriate to discontinue regular medications for hospice patients? This webinar will highlight an approach to deprescribing medications that incorporates both the evidence behind discontinuing medications and the art of making recommendations to patients and families while also addressing their concerns and fears.  Participants in this webinar will receive practical tips and strategies to help provide the highest quality of care while discontinuing the medications that are no longer beneficial for sustaining life or effective in providing comfort.
Program Goals:
• Describe a stepwise approach to decide which medications should be discontinued based on life-expectancy and patient's goals of care
• Discuss the persistent effect of medications including insulin, statins, and bisphosphonates
• Describe how to make a recommendation about discontinuing medications that attends to patient's and caregiver’s emotions
