Home care emphasizes choice, customer service and self-determination for consumers in independent living environments. The RN has the opportunity to work with the individual in making the choice, and control for delivery of services for tasks that may be considered nursing tasks more readily available in order to assist families keep their loved ones at home. Unlicensed personnel work with individuals daily to complete a variety of tasks, including tasks that could be delegated, thus expanding the population of individuals who could be served safely in the home. In this session, attendees will learn what an agency needs to know about an unlicensed person performing a task that may be considered a nursing task, what the RN needs to know to practice safely and within the practice act, and the RNs role and responsibilities in both RN Delegation and Health Maintenance Activities.
