Webinar: Operating Separate Entities? Demonstrate It!

When:  May 20, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 01:30 PM (CT)

A licensed & Medicare-certified home health or hospice agency may create and provide services as separate entities under the Home and Community Support Services Agencies (HCSSA) license. The purpose is to allow the agency to focus efforts on more stringent Medicare standards and apply Conditions of Participation only to services for Medicare beneficiaries. OASIS assessment and reporting is one such requirement. As the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) transitions to OASIS reporting for all patients/clients regardless of payer, it is vital that HCSSA choosing to operate separate entities do so appropriately. But what criteria must a HCSSA meet to operate separate entities? How is this shown during a surveyor's or investigator's evaluation?

The participant will be able to:

  1. Define separate entities.
  2. List the three types of documentation used to demonstrate separate entities.
  3. Describe the two sources of review and interview surveyors use to determine compliance with separate entities.
  4. State the date when all-payer OASIS will be enforced for HCSSAs the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services .
