HOSPICE: New Edit Ensures only Active Billing Provider Can Submit Revocation

By Heather Kennedy posted Jan 26,2019 08:54 AM

Dear Members,

CMS recently issued Medicare Learning Network Article (MLN) 11049, Ensuring only the Active Billing Hospice Can Submit a Revocation, to notify providers of an edit that has been included in the Common Working File (CWF) effective for claims received on or after July 1, 2019.

This edit will only allow Notices of Revocation/Termination Type of Bill (TOB) 8xB if the provider's CMS Certification Number (CCN) on
the notice matches the CCN on the hospice election period. As described in the MLN article, providers should be aware that Palmetto GBA will reject a TOB 8xB if:
  • The provider CCN matches the CCN on the hospice election period; AND
  • Transfer or change of ownership dates are present on a hospice benefit period; AND
  • No claims have processed within the benefit period after the revocation date; AND
  • The CCN does not match the CCN associated with the latest transfer or change of ownership date on the hospice benefit period.
Additional processing changes to CMS' systems identified as necessary by the Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs) related to the redesign of hospice billing periods are coming in the Spring; these will be made in Change Request 10967, to be implemented April 1, 2019. TAHC&H will monitor those changes and update you as additional information becomes available; you can also read about these upcoming changes in MLN Article 10967, Redesign of Hospice Periods – Additional Requirements

Please send us any questions you may have.
Thank you!
