Hospice Compare Location Search Function Alert

By Marissa Machado posted Nov 28,2017 01:26 PM

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is aware that the location search on Hospice Compare may return incorrect results.  As a result, CMS has provided a message on the home page of Hospice Compare informing users that when searching by location, the list of agencies provided may not serve the zip code, city, or state they entered.

The banner message states “When searching by “location”, the list of agencies provided may or may not serve the Zip code, City, or State you entered. We suggest you call any hospice you select to confirm that they serve your area.”   Please note that the banner message recommends that consumers call hospice providers to confirm their service areas. So, if you receive a call, please be ready to provide your service area and you may want to take this opportunity to start a conversation with the consumer about how the compare website provides a snapshot of the quality of care your hospice offers; and encourage them to review quality ratings so they can make the best decisions for their care.

CMS is currently working to improve the search functionality and will update the website as soon as possible. CMS appreciates your patience while they work to enhance the end users’ experience with Hospice Compare.

Providers should continue to monitor the Hospice Quality Public Reporting webpage for updates on this issue.
