Special Kids Day Recap

By Elyse Fulton posted Mar 02,2017 03:03 PM

Provider and consumer advocates of home care from across the state gathered at the Texas Capitol for Special Kids Day on Wednesday to promote pediatric home care services to legislative offices. The day's highlights included addresses by Rep. Sergio Munoz (D-Palmview) and Rep. John Zerwas (R-Katy), a rally and press conference held by Protect TXFragile Kids, and over twenty meetings with offices of legislators on key budget and health committees.

Our group of about 30 TAHC&H provider agencies specializing in pediatric therapy, private duty nursing, and pediatric attendant services, started the day at 8:00am with a kick off meeting. After hearing remarks from Rep. Munoz about Medicaid Managed Care and the current political climate in the Texas Legislature, we headed to the capitol to advocate. At the day's end, our group met with over twenty offices to ask them to reverse the cuts madein 2015to the Medicaid therapy program.

It was one of the busiest days of the 2017 Texas Legislative Session so far with many groups in the halls of our Capitol. With the 2017 Legislative Session speeding up, grassroots advocacy has never been so important. Sign up for our next day at the Capitol, Community Care Day, on March 22 and save the date for Home Care & Hospice Day at the Capitol on May 11!
