Home Care & Hospice Day at the Capitol

By Elyse Fulton posted May 11,2017 05:07 PM

Home care & hospice advocates from across Texas gathered at the Capitol for Home Care & Hospice Day this Thursday, May 11. The day started with State Representative Charlie Geren (R-Fort Worth) recognizing our group of advocates in the House gallery as well as all home care & hospice professionals in Texas for providing high-quality and compassionate care for individuals in times of personal health crisis.

Home care advocates then visited their home and work State Representatives and Senators to update their offices on current budget and legislative issues affecting the home care industry. Importantly, the Texas Association for Home Care & Hospice (TAHC&H) supports the House version of the budget bill as well as the supplemental budget, HB 2, for partially restoring Medicaid funding in the remainder of the 2017 fiscal year. TAHC&H is also supportive of Rider 220 in the House version of the budget addressing simplification in the Electronic Visit Verification (EVV) program, no cuts to community care programs, and legislative fixes for oversight in Medicaid managed care.

The Medicaid managed care oversight bill TAHC&H has pushed this legislative session, HB 3982, will likely not be passed by the House in time to beat tonight's midnight deadline. However, as bills are amended daily, there is still a chance to add language addressing Medicaid managed care and EVV in other legislation. Please check the Open Forum for continuous updates and our action alert center to take grassroot action.

Watch the archived video of the formal recognition here and read the resolution by Chairman Richard Raymond (D-Laredo) declaring May 11th Home Care & Hospice Day at the Texas Capitol.
